As a major oilfield in east China, Shengli oilfield in Shandong province is the second large oilfield established next to Daqing oilfield. Since put into development, two oil transportation pipelines have been laid sequentially, one from Dongying to Xindian(in 1974) and another from Linyi to Jinan(in 1972), delivering oil directly to both Qilu and Jinan refineries. In 1974, oil transfer by sea initiated at Huangdao oil harbor after the completion of pipeline from Dongying to Huangdao. Since 1975, pipelines from Shandong to Yizheng and from Dongying to Linyi had been constructed, forming the pipeline network in east China. Waterborne transportation of oil at Yizheng oil harbor can be realized as well. As pipelines from Changzhou to Linyi and from Puyang to Linyi completed in 1978 and 1979 respectively, part of crude oil produced in Huadong and Zhongyuan oilfields has also transported through this network. Yizheng oil transportation station (storage battery)located at the northern bank of Yangtz river becomes the largest oil transfer base in east China, supplying oil through Yizheng oil harbor to refineries along Yangtz river as well as to Nanjing refinery. The overall length of oil transportation pipelines amounts to 2718.2 km in the area.

The planning of crude pipeline network in east China began when Lu Ning pipeline from Linyi to Nanjing was constructed, which is called as Lu –Ning line although only run to Yizhen in Jiangsu finally. The pipeline passes through Shandong, Anhui and Jiangsu provinces. During the construction, a loud slogan of “ Pipeline as business, the whole country as home, hardship as glorious and field operation as happiness” was put forward by the command headquarters. The construction of Lu-Ning pipeline started officially on 20th October 1975 and completed in July 1978 with a total length of 652.58 km and an annual delivery capacity of 2000 ×104tons, which was designed by the pipeline Survey & Design Institute and constructed by the No. 2 & 3 Pipeline Companies.

The construction of pipeline from Dongying to Xindian(Dong-Xin pipeline) initialed in Jan.1965 and it was put into operation in Dec.1965. The total length of the pipeline is 79.36km and the transportation capacity is 540×104tons, with branches 7.5km long.

The construction of the pipeline from Linyi to Jinan(Lin-Ji pipeline) initialed in 1973 and it was put into operation in 1973. Its total length is 67.3 km and transportation capacity 110×104tons.The pipeline passes through three rivers ( Yellow river, Tuhaihe and Xiaoqinghe) and the crossing over Yellow river was operated by pipe pushing.

Linyi dual pipeline was completed in 1991 with a total length of 69.5×104 km and an annual transportation capacity of150×104 tons. The pipeline passes through rivers at 41 places, trunk road at 7 places and railway at 3 places. The crossing over yellow river was constructed by sand washing and settling. Linqi pipeline and Linji dual pipeline were designed by Shengli oilfield design institute and constructed by Shengli oilfield construction company.

Pipeline from Dongying to Huangdao(Dong-Huang pipeline)initialed in 1973 and was put into operation in 1974. It was 248.93km long originally as designed by Shengli oilfield design institute and constructed by Shengli oilfield construction company. After taken over by the Pipeline Bureau, it was revamped technically in 1984. Its total length is 245.32 km and the annual transportation capacity is 1000 ×104tons. As Dong-Huang dual pipeline completed in Jul.1986, Dong-Huang pipeline was purged and stopped operation. On Aug.23, 1998, the operation of Dong-Huang pipeline was resumed (Dong-Huang pipeline to transport oil produced in Shangli and the dual pipeline to transport imported oil). The revamp and recovery engineering was designed by the former Pipeline Survey & Design Institute and constructed by No. 4 pipeline company and the pipeline installation company subsidiary to Shengli Oil Transmission Company.
The construction of Dong-Huang dual pipeline initialed in 1985 and it was put into operation on Jul.17,1986. The total pipeline length is 248.52 km, the design pressure is 6.5 MPa and the annual transportation capacity is 2000×104 tons. It is the first automatic oil transportation pipeline constructed in China. It was designed by the Pipeline Survey & Design institute with a joint design with foreign company for its automation and constructed by the o. 2 7 3 pipeline companies.
