Hetian river gas field is located in Mazhatage structural belt of the southern Bachu salient in the central uplift of Tarim basin, just in the junctures of Bachu county of Gashi district, Pishan county and Moyu county of Hetian district.
Oil and gas exploration in Hetian river area commenced in 1993. As a result of an industrial gas flowing found in well Laoma 4 on Sep.27,1997, Hetian river gas field was discovered. As of the end of 1998, it had proven 143.4 km2 gas-bearing area and an OGIP 616.94×108m3. Hetian river gas field is a large gas field with low abundance.
