Gas transportation pipeline in North-West China

Shan-Jing pipeline(from Qingbian to Beijing) is a key national project as well as a backbone project for the early stage of ¡°West to East Gas Pipeline ¡± project, being as one up to top level of construction in China.

Shan-Jing pipeline(from Qingbian to Beijing) is the first long distance and large diameter gas transmission pipeline with highly automation. The project initialed in Mar.1996 and completed on Sep.10,1997, having a total length 918.42 km£¬design pressure 6.4Mpa and an annual delivery capacity over 13.2 ¡Á108 m3 without boosting. The booster station (Yushulin gas station)at phase 2 was completed on Nov.10,1999 to increse the capacity to 22 ¡Á108 m3. The booster station ( West yellow river and Yingxian Stations)at phase 3 was completed on Nov.15,2000 to reach a capacity 33¡Á108 m3.

Shan-Jing thunk pipeline starts from the natural gas purification plant in Changqing gas field, located in Jingbian county, Shaanxi province and terminats in the Yamenkou terminal in Shijingshan district, Beijing, passing through 22 counties in Shaanxi, Shanxi and Hebei as well as Beijing city. This pipeline crosses three earthquake zones and passes through three mountain ranges(Luliang, Hengshan and Taihangshan) and five rivers(Wuding river, Tuwei river, Yaoye river, yellow river and Yongding river). The whole pipeline passes through rivers at 230 placess, railways at 21 places and highways at 131 places. In view of peak shaving, Dazhangtuo underground gas storage and its auxiliary 118.5 km pipeline was completed on Jan.6,2000, providing a peak shaving capacity 500 ¡Á104m3 /d and an annual net peak shaving 6 ¡Á108m3.
For all of Shan-Jing pipeline engineering, accepted internationally advanced standards were adopted. The pipeline was designed by the Pipeline Design Institute jointly with foreign company and constructed by NO.1,2 & 3 pipeline construction companies and the oilfield construction companies from Daqing, Changqing and Sichuan.

The construction of Shan-U pipeline(from Shanshan to Urumchi)started on 26th Sept.1995 and completed on 30th Sept.1996. It was operated formally on March 10,1997. With a total length of 301.6km, the pipeline passes through rivers at 6 places, railways at 6 places and roads at 79 places.

Shan-U pipeline is a gas transmission pipeline with highly automation. It was the first application of epoxy powdered coating for corrosion prevention of the pipeline as well as the first time in china to lay the optical communication cable in the same ditch. The pipeline has an overall length of 310.78km.

Shan-U pipeline is also a large onshore project, which was organized and constructed for the first time up to the international practice. For the project, supervision system ( with a supervision scope: the whole process, including basic design, detail design, construction, commissioning, acceptance inspection and start-up) and an independent quality supervision system were introduced. A lump-sum contracting was used for the engineering, also known as ¡°Turn key project¡± as a common practice for international engineering.

There are both oil and gas reservoirs in Tarim oilfield, Xinjiang. Particularly, the as reservoirs have abundant resources with great prospecting for development. In 1996, the proven OGIP was accumulated to 305.23 ¡Á108m3. The construction of gas transmission pipeline initialed in the same year. By the end of 20 century, the proven OGIP was up to over 5000¡Á108m3. The completed gas transmission pipelines include Tar-Lun pipeline, Lun-Ku pipeline. The trunk pipeline for ¡°West to east gas transmission¡± starts also here to Shanghai.

The construction of pipeline from Tazhong to Lunnan (Ta-Lun) began on the first day of Jul.1995 and completed on Aug.16,1996 with a total length 302.15km. It is the first gas transmission pipeline in China, passing through desert and laid in the same ditch along with Tar-Lun oil transportation pipeline and optical communication cable.
