Donghai basin is located on continental shelf of Donghai, in Fujian province, east from Zejiang, noth from Taiwan, south from Jizhou island of Korea, covered 260 thousand sq. km.
Exploration in Donghai basin was initiated in 1974, up to 1997, two gas fields (Pinghu and Chunxiao) had been discovered proven 13.118 million tons OOIP and 28.338billion cubic meters OGIP.

Pinghu oilfield was discovered in Api.1983 and oilfield was put on production in Dec.1998,gas field was put on production in Mar.1989. in 1999, oil and gas production were 555.6 thousand tons and 166 million cubic meters relatively.

Chunxiao gas field was discovered on Feb.14 ,2000 by New Star Petroleum Corporation with the reserve in the biggest scale in Donghai. Successful drilling well Chunxiao-3 gained industrial oil and gas flow with high production, located in the sea area of southern part of Xihu depression, Donghai continental shelf basin, oil and gas production were 88 cubic meters and 1.4319 million cubic meters relatively. It is going to cooperate with CNOOC to develop.
