| Tuha Oilfield is located in Turpan and Hami basins
in the eastern Xinjiang, which is adjacent to Tarim and Junggar basins
in south and north respectively over mountains. The basin is 600 km
long in E-W and 130 km wide in S-N, covering an area of 5.35 ¡Á104
km2.
Commercial oil flow was obtained from Jurassic formation in well
Taican-1 on Jan.5, 1989, leading to the discovery of Shanshan oilfield.
In Feb. 1991, a comprehensive campaign for oil exploration and development
was undertaken in Tuha oilfield. Through arduous efforts, a top
class oilfield in China has been developed and built up and a team
with leading technology in petroleum engineering and technical service
domestically has been nurtured and fostered.
As of the end of 1997, totally 14 oil and gas fields such as Shanshan
and Wenjisan and 2 gas fields had been discovered with a proven
OOIP of 2.5¡Á108 t and OGIP of 266.7¡Á108 m3 in an oil & gas bearing
area of 178.1 km2 and a yearly production of 300¡Á104 t was established
at that time.
