Dagang Oilfield lies in Huanghua depression and is based in Dagang district of Tianjin. Its exploration covers twenty-five districts, cities and counties in Tianjin, Hebei and Shandong, including Dagang exploration area and Yoerdus basin in Xinjiang. The total exploration area in Dagang oilfield is 34,629 km2，including 18, 629 km2 in Dagang exploration area.

After the start of the oil and gas exploration in early 60’s last century, the discovery of commercial oil flow from Tertiary Guantao group formation in well Huang 3 located in Yangmu structure in Dec., 1963 revealed a new chapter for oil and gas exploration in Huanghua depression. As of the end of 1996, an oil-bearing area of 564.5 km2 had been proven accumulatively with a proven OOIP of 7.9 X108t and a gas bearing area of 104.5 km2 with a proven OGIP of 309.69 ×108m3 in addition to a proven gas condensate OOIP of 734 ×104 t. There are 23 oil and gas fields under development now, including 15 oil and gas producing fields in 24 development areas in Dagang exploration district, providing an annual production 430 ×104 t oil and 3.8 ×108 m3 gas. It is ranked as No.6 among 21 oil and gas onshore fields in China.

Through arduous efforts over 30 years, an oil and gas production base has been built up on the past alkali flat, which has integrated various functions such as oil exploration and production, refining, machinery, scientific research and design, constructing, logistic service, public community and diversified business.
